Prosperity and Self-Sufficiency for Newfoundland and Labrador.

JOINTLY WITH THE EMPIRE CLUB OF CANADA.
You’ve seen him in the newspapers a lot in recent weeks. Now see him in person. Join the Empire and Canadian Clubs on Monday, February 3rd, when Premier Danny Williams will discuss Newfoundland’s history, its place in the federation and its struggle to benefit from the province’s natural resources in a way that allows Newfoundland and Labrador to achieve self-sufficiency and prosperity.

Mr. Williams is a graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland, with a joint major in political science and economics. Awarded the Rhodes Scholarship in 1969, he received a degree in Arts in Law from Oxford University in England and a Bachelor of Law degree from Dalhousie University. He practiced law in Newfoundland beginning in 1972 and in 1984 was appointed Queen’s Council. While studying at Dalhousie Mr. Williams led a consortium of business people that brought the first cable television license to Newfoundland and Labrador. Mr. Williams has also been involved in the offshore oil and gas and tourism industries and was instrumental in bringing an AHL hockey team to St. John’s.

On October 21, 2003, he was elected by an overwhelming majority as Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador.
