A New World of Medical Science - the implications for Canadian society

Dr. Sydney Brenner is the Senior Distinguished Fellow of the Crick-Jacobs Center at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. Described among other things as iconoclastic, witty and self-deprecating by his friends and colleagues, Dr. Brenner, a molecular biologist, is also the 2002 Nobel Prize Winner for Medicine, an award he received for his work on the tiny worm C. elegans. His ground breaking work on what he calls ‘the worm’ has had implications for understanding a wide range of diseases including cancer, AIDS, strokes and even neurodegenerative diseases.

A double Gairdner Foundation Award winner (1978 and 1991) for medical research, Dr. Brenner joins us on October 25th to share his insights into the new world of medical science and the implications for Canadian society.
