Searching for a Sustainable Energy Future

We open our 111th season with a challenging discussion of one of the globe’s most controversial environmental issues, nuclear energy. Joining us to lead this discussion is Dr. Patrick Moore, environmentalist, Greenpeace co-founder and now Chief Scientist of the environmental consulting firm Greenspirit Strategies based in Vancouver.

Dr. Moore will argue that, much of the environmental movement, including Greenpeace, has lost its way when it comes to nuclear power, caught up in politically correct ideology and stooping to sensationalism to garner support. Rather than being a poor environmental choice, Dr. Moore says that today’s scientific evidence supports nuclear power as an environmentally sound and safe choice for energy consumers around the globe. And, nuclear energy is the only non-greenhouse-gas-emitting power source that can effectively replace fossil fuels and satisfy global energy demand.

Dr. Moore was a founding member and former President of Greenpeace and has been a leader in the international environmental movement for more than 30 years. Dr. Moore calls for environmental issues to be discussed on the basis of accurate scientific data, a search for consensus and the creation of sustainable solutions.

Please join us Monday, September 17th for what is sure to be a lively and engaging debate. Dr. Moore will take questions from the audience.
