By far the most invisible and misunderstood group of Canadians is women over 40. Yet it’s these women who most deserve our attention, because in a world dominated by change, midlife women are changing the most and have much to teach us about living, leadership, health and happiness.
No one knows this better than Dr. Jean Marmoreo, Toronto family physician, author and Globe and Mail columnist. In 2002, she gathered a few midlife women friends and dared them to run the Marine Corps Marathon with her in Washington, D.C. Today, JeansMarines has 600 women members and is now the largest women’s marathon training group in Canada, in North America, in the world.
Clearly, something new and big is going on here, and as Dr. Jean says: “Whatever you thought about midlife women, think again.”
