Capitalizing on Opportunity: Calling on Government and the Financial Industry to Play Their Parts in Fulfilling Canada’s Economic Potential

Brian Porter joins us to reflect on the amazing economic and financial performance that Canada has been experiencing over the last few years, including back to back years of record growth and will conclude with his thoughts on what must be done to ensure that we sustain this kind of performance for the longer term.

Mr. Porter will address the following topics

1) The macro-economic factors which contributed to these results, including mega-low interest rates, the strong Canadian dollar and red-hot resources.

2) The role that mergers and acquisitions and the record activity in debt and equity financing have played in producing these results.

3) The potential storm clouds on the horizon, including our lagging productivity growth, deteriorations in relations with the United States and impediments to the efficiency of our financial markets.

4) The heightened scrutiny and concerns over hedge funds.
