Since last August, Barbara Stymiest, Chief Executive Officer of the Toronto Stock Exchange, has been calling for renewed dialogue on securities regulation, an issue that has been widely discussed in Canada since the 1930s, but never resolved. To help find answers for this long-standing problem for Canadian businesses, the University of Toronto’s Capital Markets Institute, in collaboration with the TSE, will hold a symposium on securities regulation on March 8th. On March 18th, Ms. Stymiest will set out her views to the Canadian Club of what needs to be done to create a regulatory environment that will strengthen Canada’s capital markets.
Barbara Stymiest has spent more than 20 years in the securities industry. Prior to joining the TSE, Ms. Stymiest was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Bank of Montreal’s investment banking division. She is currently a Director of the Canadian Depository for Securities, a member of the Securities Industry Advisory Council and a member of the Executive Committee for the International Federation of Stock Exchanges.
