Building Secure North American Markets: Canada-US Relations in a New Era

In today’s post-September 11 climate, as US Ambassador Paul Cellucci recently put it, “security trumps trade”. IDA Chairman Terry Salman will discuss the steps the IDA and the Canadian securities industry have taken, unilaterally and in cooperation with US officials, to enhance the integrity of Canadian and US financial markets. In this new trade paradigm, where security matters are preeminent, Canada has played an important, sometimes unsung, role. This contribution may pay dividends in terms of more open access to US markets, particularly as a strengthening Canadian economy looks south for more risk capital and trade opportunities.

In addition to serving as the 2002-2003 Chair of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada, Mr. Salman is Chairman, President and CEO of Salman Partners Inc., an independent, research-driven, full-service investment dealer. Based in Vancouver, he also serves in a number of volunteer roles including Chairman of the Vancouver Public Library Foundation and a Director of the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada.
