The Little Engine That Could

In these times of a global financial meltdown, Canadians may feel like the little engine facing an insurmountable hill of problems.

How do we compete in a world of giants? How do we stay on track when buffeted by volatility?

Saying “I think I can” is no longer enough to get us to the top of that hill. Canada has many of the essential elements needed to prosper, but we lack a coherent strategy to use our assets to their full advantage. Now, more than ever, universities, government and industry need to increase their focus on strategic partnerships, within and across sectors, in order to achieve the critical mass Canada needs to compete globally.

Please join us on Monday, March 30th when Heather Munroe-Blum, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of McGill University, will review Canada’s research landscape, and make recommendations as to how we can build strength in a time of uncertainty.

Heather Munroe-Blum became the 16th Principal and Vice-Chancellor of McGill University in 2003. An accomplished scholar in the fields of epidemiology and public policy and a distinguished administrator, Dr. Munroe-Blum is a member of McGill’s Faculty of Medicine and a Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. She has dedicated her career to the advancement of higher education, science and innovation, in Canada and internationally, advising governments and other organizations on the role that universities and research play in advancing international competitiveness and enriching societies.
