Tim van Biesen

Tim van Biesen leads Bain’s Global Healthcare Practice; he is based in the New York office. Prior to joining Bain, Tim was a senior research scientist at Abbott Laboratories. He has 20 years of consulting experience in the healthcare industry, and more than 10 years experience as a research scientist.
Tim’s areas of expertise span the full range of healthcare sub-sectors, including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, payers, providers and services. He has helped clients develop corporate growth strategy, R&D strategy, brand sales & marketing strategy, licensing and acquisitions, post merger integration and, manufacturing and supply chain strategy. In addition to his work with corporate clients, Tim supports the firm’s advisory work for private equity investors in the healthcare sector.
Dr. van Biesen has published more than 30 papers in peer-reviewed journals including Nature, Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, and The Journal of Biological Chemistry; his work has been cited more than 6000 times.
He received his MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University and has a Ph.D. and B.Sc. in Molecular Microbiology from the University of Alberta. Tim conducted his postdoctoral fellowship at Duke University/Howard Hughes Medical Institute in the laboratory of Dr. Robert J. Lefkowitz, winner of the 2012 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
Jodi Butts
Canadian Healthcare Executive
Jodi is a seasoned executive with a strong track record in driving positive change and growth within leading organizations across the public, private, and social sectors. A recognized expert in health policy, Jodi is known for her experience and her ability to create positive change through leading organizations while considering the broader societal implications of decisions .
Currently, Jodi serves as an independent member of the Board of Directors of Canada Goose Inc.; an independent member of the Board of Directors of Aphria Inc.; Chair of The Walrus Foundation Board of Directors; and as a member of the Board of Governors and Audit Committee of the University of Windsor. She also holds several Board Advisory roles including with Bayshore Home Healthcare. In 2016, Jodi was appointed by the Government of Ontario to serve as a member of the Healthcare Sector Supply Chain Strategy (HSSCS) Expert Panel (Expert Panel) to advise and recommend a supply chain management strategy for Ontario’s health care ecosystem.
Jodi Butts has previously served as Chief Executive Officer of Rise Asset Development and Senior Vice‐President of Operations and Redevelopment at Mount Sinai Hospital. Jodi received a Master’s degree in Canadian History from the University of Toronto, is a graduate of the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law, and was called to the Bar in 2000.
