It's All About the Customer: Competing in the 21st Century

Anne Mulcahy was named CEO of Xerox on Aug. 1, 2001 and Chairman on Jan. 1, 2002, a time when Xerox Corporation faced the worst crisis of its corporate history and was fighting for its survival.

Xerox has clearly emerged from the crisis and Anne joins us June 1st to share the key lessons they learned along the way; lessons that she believes are just as important to pay attention to, even when things are going well. These include:

– making long-term decisions during a short-term crisis.

– delivering what the customer needs, not want the company wants.

– developing talent in an increasingly more competitive and global economy.

– caring for the customer from the corner office.

– treating every employee as a customer champion.

Anne Mulcahy began her Xerox career as a field sales representative in 1976 and assumed increasingly responsible sales and senior management positions. From 1992-1995, Mulcahy was vice president for human resources, responsible for compensation, benefits, human resource strategy, labor relations, management development and employee training. She became chief staff officer in 1997 and corporate senior vice president in 1998. She also served as vice president and staff officer for Customer Operations, covering South America and Central America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and China and President of Xerox’s General Markets Operations, which created and sold products for reseller, dealer and retail channels.

Anne holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English/Journalism from Marymount College in Tarrytown, N.Y. In addition to the Xerox board, she is a member of the boards of directors of Catalyst, Citigroup Inc., Fuji Xerox Co. Ltd. and Target Corporation, and is a member of The Business Council.
