Massive Change: An international discursive project on the future of design culture

Design – the human capacity to plan and produce desired outcomes – has placed us at the beginning of a new, unprecedented period of human possibility, where all economies and ecologies are becoming global, relational and interconnected.

Nature is no longer a realm outside of our manipulation. We need to evolve a global society that has the capacity to direct and control the emerging forces in order to achieve the most positive outcome. We must ask ourselves: now that we can do anything, what will we do?

Bruce Mau is one of the world’s foremost contemporary designers. Since its founding in 1985, Mau’s Toronto-based studio has gained international recognition for its expertise and innovation in identity articulation, research and conceptual programming, print design and production, environmental signage and way finding systems, and exhibition and product design. In recent years, studio output has extended to dance performances, video installations, and ventures into the fields of architecture, urban planning, landscape design and education.
