Convergence is the great buzzword in today’s media industry. The Canadian media is experiencing unprecedented change as television, radio and newspaper assets are brought together under common ownership. David Galloway joined Torstar in 1988 as President and Chief Executive Officer. Prior to that he was President and CEO of Harlequin worldwide. Torstar’s operations include the Torstar Daily Newspaper Group consisting of The Toronto Star, The Hamilton Spectator and The Kitchener-Waterloo Record; Metroland Printing Publishing & Distributing, publishers of approximately 70 community newspapers and distributors of advertising materials; Harlequin Enterprises, the world’s largest publisher of series romance fiction; the Interactive Media Division, which includes approximately 40 websites and a portfolio of Internet- related investments and Torstar Media Group Television which operates a license-exempt teleshopping service, video production and broadband facility.
