Joint Luncheon with the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce

A pioneer of co-operative education and innovative research, the University of Waterloo has fostered many high-tech companies in the Waterloo area. But what does a university owe its community? How can it serve? Professor David Johnston, President of the University of Waterloo, will discuss the significant economic and social impacts this unique university continues to make on the rapidly-growing Waterloo Region community after only 44 years.

David Johnston was appointed President of the University of Waterloo in June 1999. He is the recipient of honorary doctorates from 12 universities and is a Companion of the Order of Canada. The author of a dozen books, including Getting Canada Online: Understanding the Information Highway, Dr. Johnston has served on many provincial and federal task forces and committees and is currently Special Advisor to the Minister of Industry on information highway matters.
