Dr. Kalam is one of the most respected and beloved leaders of India. He is one of the most distinguished scientists in India with the unique honour of having been progressively awarded the three highest civilian awards in the nation. He displayed vision and leadership while holding the topmost scientific position in India, that of the Chief Scientific Officer for the Government of India. Subsequently, as one of the most admired Presidents of India, he also brought a touch of humanism to the position. His “Vision 2020 for India” developed during his term as President has set the tone for India’s future. Dr. Kalam was the first civil servant to be accorded India’s highest honour, the Bharat Ratna, an honour he was given even before becoming the President of India.
