Even though there are substantial economic gains from greater trade, investment, and migration resulting from falling barriers, Canadians worry that Canada’s sovereignty will be compromised. However, within the rules of international co-operation, Canada can achieve prosperity and enhance sovereignty by pursuing smart public policies that makes it distinct, rather than following what other countries do. Jack Mintz, President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, a leading public policy research institution, will provide examples of how Canada can pursue policies that would create opportunities for economic prosperity and Canadian uniqueness in an integrating world economy.
An internationally renowned expert on business taxation, Dr. Mintz serves on numerous boards and has consulted widely with the World Bank, the IMF, the OECD, the governments of Canada and numerous provinces, and various businesses and non-profit organizations. Dr. Mintz is also the Arthur Andersen Professor of Taxation, Joseph L. Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.
