Minister Schweitzer will be speaking on Alberta’s economic recovery and how the province plans to address growing and diversifying its economy as we move past the COVID-19 pandemic. The Minister will also promote the work being done to strengthen the foundations of Alberta’s existing sectors and expanding emerging industries, as well as highlight the economic synergies that exist between other province’s and how Alberta plans to attract investment dollars. Alberta’s Minister of Jobs, Economy and Innovation
Minister Doug Schweitzer was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta on April 16, 2019 as the MLA for Calgary-Elbow. He was then appointed as Alberta’s Minister of Justice and Solicitor General, where he made important progress tackling rural and organized crime, took measures to protect vulnerable Albertans from exploitation, and instituted a system of drug treatment courts to break the cycle of drug-related crime and advancing aspects of the fair deal panel report recommendations.
On August 25, 2020, Minister Schweitzer was appointed as Alberta’s Minister of Jobs, Economy and Innovation, where he currently oversees the implementation of Alberta’s Recovery Plan, which focuses on strengthening Alberta’s workforce, diversifying the economy, maximizing government efficiency, and attracting investment to the province.
Prior to the 2019 election, Minister Schweitzer was a partner at a leading Alberta law firm where his experience in restructuring and bankruptcy law offered valuable insights into policy that continues to have an real impact on Albertans.
As a father of 2 young girls, Minister Schweitzer remains passionate about delivering on Alberta’s longstanding promise: that with hard work, no matter where you come from, you can succeed.
Adrienne Batra
Editor-in-Chief, Toronto Sun
Adrienne Batra was born and raised in Saskatchewan.
She has an undergraduate degree in political science and a Masters in Public Administration.
Ms. Batra worked at the Saskatchewan Legislature as a researcher with the opposition caucus office.
She then moved on to be the Manitoba Director for the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, Canada’s largest taxpayer advocacy group.
In 2010, Ms. Batra was the Director of Communications for the Rob Ford for Mayor campaign, and moved on to serve in the Office of the Mayor as Ford’s Press Secretary.
Upon leaving City Hall, she became the Comment Editor and columnist for the Toronto Sun and political commentator on Newstalk 1010.
Ms. Batra hosted her own TV show on Sun News Network, focussed on political, social and economic issues.
In June of 2015, Ms. Batra was appointed as the Editor in Chief of the Toronto Sun and 24Hours Toronto.
She has appeared on Fox Business News, CNN and BBC and is a frequent contributor on Global News and CTV News Channel, CBC, CP24 and AM640.
Ms. Batra also served in the Canadian Armed Forces, obtaining the rank of Lieutenant, and was nominated for a YWCA Woman of Distinction award. In 2013 she was awarded with a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal and serves on the Board of Governors for the National Newspaper Awards and the Canadian Journalism Foundation and served on the Board of the Canadian Club Toronto.
