Broadcasting: The Future May Not Be What You Think!

iPod’s, the soon to be released HD DVD players and TV cell phones are just a few of the multitude of new consumer technologies available to Canadians. Walk through any shopping mall, step on any subway car, or take your teenagers to school and you’ll see the impact that these technologies are having on Canadian society. Perhaps nowhere is this more visible than in the music, radio and television broadcasting industries. In his speech to the Canadian Club, Glen O’Farrell will talk about the impact of these technologies and what the future of Canadian broadcasting might or might not look like.

Prior to joining the CAB, Glenn O’Farrell served as Senior Vice-President, Specialty Services with the Global Television Network. He had overall strategic responsibility for the company’s existing cable channels, and for new channels in development. In addition, as President of Global Quebec, he had executive responsibility for network operations in that province, where he was the primary architect of Global’s expansion into Quebec. Originally from St-Malachie, Quebec, Glenn studied economics and then law at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia and at Université Laval in Quebec City. He has been a member of the Quebec and Canadian Bar Associations since 1983.

The Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB) is a professional industry association that represents the vast majority of Canadian programming services – including private television and radio stations and networks, and specialty, pay and pay-per-view television services. Established in 1926, the CAB has over 600 members.
