The Honourable Frank Iacobucci, former Justice, Supreme Court of Canada, returned to the University of Toronto in 2004 to serve as Interim President, after a twenty year absence. What he found was shocking. Adjusted for inflation, the U of T’s operating budget is now two-thirds what it was a decade ago. The impact of this under funding, while not always obvious, is significant. President Iacobucci will tackle some of the long-held myths that surround universities (including funding myths) and make clear why it is critical to Ontario’s and Canada’s future that government take immediate steps to reinvest in the institutions that cultivate the ideas and the leaders that drive our economy and sustain society.
