Ontario Budget 2007

Ontario Finance Minister Greg Sorbara will discuss the 2007 Ontario budget, which he will present in the Legislature on March 22nd.

Greg Sorbara was first appointed to the McGuinty Cabinet as Minister of Finance on October 23, 2003. He has a long and distinguished history of public service and private sector achievement. First elected in 1985 in the riding of York North, and re-elected for the new riding of York Centre in 1987 and 1990. In the previous Liberal government, he held a series of senior cabinet posts, including the double portfolios of Minister of Colleges and Universities/Minister of Skills Development and Minister of Labour/Minister Responsible for Women’s Issues. He later served as Minister of Consumer and Commercial Relations.

Greg returned to the private sector in 1995 and remained active in his community and in business. He served as a director of the United Way of York Region from 1998-2001 and was a member of the board of the York University Alumni Association from 1997-2001.

Returning to the public arena in 1999, Greg was elected President of the Ontario Liberal Party and held that position until February 2004. In June 2001, he was elected to the riding of Vaughan-King-Aurora, receiving over 60 percent of the vote. Greg also served as the Ontario Liberal Party’s 2003 Campaign Chair.

Greg holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from York University’s Glendon College and a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School. He and his wife Katie have six children and eight grandchildren.
