In the wake of September 11 Mr. Manley has had a leading role in border and security issues involving Canada and the United States, and has been working closely with his U.S. counterpart, Director of Homeland Security Tom Ridge. In his speech to the Canadian Club Minister Manley will provide a progress report on these issues.
Mr. Manley was appointed to his current position in January 2002. His career in Parliament, which began in 1988, has included several prominent cabinet portfolios including Foreign Affairs, Industry and Consumer & Corporate Affairs. In December, 2001 John Manley was named Time Canada’s Newsmaker of the Year.
