Public Works and Government Services Canada is arguably one of the largest, most complex and least understood arms of the Federal Government. With 14,000 staff and spending more than $1B every month of taxpayers’ money, the Department of Public Works and Government Services has a profound effect on the efficiency of the Government of Canada.
In his first major speech since his appointment as Minister of Public Works and Government Services Canada, the Honourable Scott Brison will lay out his strategy to streamline his department and in the process transform how government does business for the next twenty-five years.
Scott Brison was born in Windsor, Nova Scotia. He is a graduate of Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in finance. Before beginning his political career, Mr. Brison had extensive private sector experience ranging from business start-ups and U.S. market development to serving as Vice-President of a Canadian investment bank.
Mr. Brison was first elected to the House of Commons in the June 1997. Since then, he has served as Vice-Chairman and member of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance, a member of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Industry, a member of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, and a member of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates.
In December 2003, Mr. Brison joined the Liberal caucus and was soon appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister with special emphasis on Canada-U.S. Relations. Mr. Brison was sworn in as Minister of Public Works and Government Services, and Receiver General for Canada, on July 20th, 2004.
