Despite the recent short-term set back, the communications revolution continues. Communications is a key sector in the Canadian economy and early recognition of the global importance of this sector has allowed Canada to play a leading role in its development. With the changes and challenges facing us today, how can Canada continue to play a leadership role? How can we ensure that Canadian companies will continue to innovate and become global leaders? What decisions are required today that will continue to address Canada’s needs over the longer term?
Jean Monty was appointed Chairman and CEO of BCE Inc. in April, 2000. He is also Chairman and CEO of Bell Canada, and Chairman of Bell Globemedia, BCE Emergis, Teleglobe Inc., and BCE Ventures. Prior to joining BCE, Mr. Monty was Vice Chairman and CEO of Nortel Networks. Mr. Monty is a member of the Order of Canada, and holds degrees from the University of Western Ontario and the University of Chicago.
