Karen Kain is being honoured for her outstanding contribution to the arts in Canada. As the National Ballet of Canada celebrates its 50th anniversary, the Canadian Club of Toronto celebrates a Canadian artist who, for more than 30 years, has been one of this country’s most beloved stars.
A graduate of the National Ballet School, Ms. Kain joined the National Ballet of Canada in 1969. She was promoted to Principal Dancer in 1971 and rose to international acclaim in the years that followed. Following her retirement as Principal Dancer in 1997 Ms. Kain joined the National Ballet’s Senior Management Team, first as Artist in Residence and subsequently as Artistic Associate, a position which she holds today.
