With more baby boomers entering their senior years, Canadians need to be concerned about their ability to provide high quality end-of-life care for loved ones. Today, less than 35 per cent of Canadians have access to palliative care and many are forced to shoulder a significant portion of the cost themselves.
Paul Lucas, President & CEO of GlaxoSmithKline Inc. (GSK) and proud member of the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association’s (CHPCA) Champions Council believes that Canada urgently needs a systems approach to end-of-life care: one that ensures that high quality care is available for Canadian families including information, resources and support.
Please join us on Monday, October 24th, as Mr. Lucas challenges corporate Canada to increase support for hospice palliative care by providing compassionate care benefits for employees. By taking a leadership role and helping employees in their time of need, Canadian employers benefit as well through a healthier and more engaged workforce.
CHPCA
CHPCA is the national voice for Hospice Palliative Care in Canada. Advancing and advocating for quality end-of-life/hospice palliative care in Canada, its work includes public policy, public education and awareness. Established in 1991, its volunteer Board of Directors is composed of hospice palliative care workers and volunteers from Canadian provinces and territories as well as members-at-large. In the Fall of 2010, the CHPCA launched it’s Champion’s Council, a group of key business and community leaders in Canada, including Mr. Lucas, who have offered to advance the profile of hospice palliative care, providing a wider range of expertise, leadership and support to the CHPCA.
