Senator Kirby’s remarks will focus on the recommendations of the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science & Technology for the reform of the Canadian health system. This parliamentary committee, chaired by Senator Kirby, has authored six volumes and spent almost three years formulating its recommendations. The Committee has presented a clear plan to Canadians on how to re-structure the health system, raise revenues to fund needed reforms, and expand coverage of important health services.
Senator Kirby hopes that the Committee’s work will focus a much-needed national debate on these critical issues and serve as a clear blueprint to government on how to approach reform.
