Transforming Ontario's Power Generation Company

Ontario’s electricity sector is at a crossroads. A false start towards a fully open market in 2002 quickly ended with a freeze on some rates. Increasing concerns about hundreds of millions of dollars in cost overruns at the Pickering station have left Ontario Power Generation (OPG) in disarray. At the same time, a high-level task force has recently identified what it called a looming supply crisis as early as 2007.

As our largest generator, OPG stands squarely at the centre of concerns about the electricity sector. On March 29, 2004 the Honourable John Manley, the former federal finance minister and deputy prime minister, will talk about the recent committee he headed that looked at the future role of OPG. He will address the committee’s vision for a stronger and more stable electricity sector for Ontario.
