Please join us on Tuesday, March 26th when we welcome Target Canada President Tony Fisher to our podium to discuss how the retailer laid the groundwork to open 124 stores across all 10 provinces by the end of this year.
As president, Tony Fisher is responsible for leading the Target Canada team to achieve revenue and profitability goals while delivering an exceptional shopping experience for Canadian guests.
Since being named president, Target Canada in January 2011, Tony has overseen a fast-growing team and been instrumental in the development of a culture that leverages Target’s focus on developing talent, collaboration, driving for results and continuous improvement, while also focusing on agility and transparency to support the entrepreneurial aspects of starting a new company in a new country for the first time.
Tony began his career with Target in 1999 as a business analyst in Apparel and Accessories. Since then, he has held several positions in Grocery and Hardlines, including roles in Owned Brand food, where he was responsible for growing Target’s private label assortment of Archer Farms and Market Pantry, and in Merchandise Planning, where he was involved in the opening of Target’s first food distribution centers.
During Tony’s time as divisional merchandise manager for Toys and Sporting Goods, he leveraged the power of Target’s guest-focused culture, and through the use of guest insights and data, his team reconfigured the Toy area to create a more enjoyable and easy-to-navigate shopping experience. Likewise, Tony’s Sporting Goods team undertook an extensive initiative that used geographical data analytics to re-merchandise the categories across the U.S. based on unique shopping preferences by market.
Immediately prior to his current position, Tony served as vice president of merchandise operations. In this role he led the teams that launched the first-ever business intelligence efforts across Merchandising and Marketing, and drove strategic assortment and pricing efforts through analytics and optimization.
Target Canada remains on track to have 124 stores serving guests in all 10 provinces by the end of the year – achieving a retail expansion of unprecedented scope and speed while providing a fun, convenient shopping experience and access to highly differentiated products at affordable prices.
Additionally, Target will build in Canada on its long-standing commitment to giving 5 percent of its profit to charitable causes in the communities we serve. Today, that giving equals more than $4 million (U.S.) a week.
Tony graduated from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn., with a bachelor’s degree in marketing management and a minor in computer science.
Tony lives near Toronto with his wife of 12 years and three children, ages 9, 7 and 5. He enjoys hockey, baseball, bicycling and spending time with his family.
