Since 1992, The Canadian Club of Toronto has presented its Canadian of the Year Award to Canadians chosen to be outstanding in their field, be it business, politics, the arts or sport. This year, Canada’s leading speaker’s forum is proud to celebrate the work of Luminato Co-Founders Tony Gagliano and David Pecaut.
With their shared vision of Toronto and its diverse arts world, Tony and David joined forces in 2003 to create a festival that attracted over one million festival-goers in its inaugural year last June. Luminato is dedicated to showcasing the best of Canada and the best of the world in one place, and at one time, every year. The importance of this festival to the Toronto arts schedule cannot be denied. One thing we know for certain: June in Toronto will never be the same again, as Toronto showcases itself as one of the most creative cities in the world.
Tony Gagliano was born in Toronto, Ontario and graduated with a degree in Business Management from Ryerson University. In 1979, he began his rise in the print industry with his first of many positions with St. Joseph Communications. He became General Manager in 1987 and, shortly thereafter, at 29 years of age, was named President. After several years with the organization, he became Chief Executive Officer in 1995. Mr. Gagliano presently serves as Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of St. Joseph Communications. His personal contributions centre on education and the environment, supporting “Partners in Growth” with Scouts Canada, which since its inception has planted over 1,750,000 trees across Canada. St. Joseph was also the first Corporation in Canada to receive the prestigious Financial Post award for environmental excellence.
David Pecaut is a Senior Partner in The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and co-founded the Canadian practice of BCG in Toronto in 1993. BCG is a general management consulting firm with 61 offices around the world focusing on issues of strategy, organization, and operational effectiveness. David’s client base spans manufacturing, resources, financial services, retailing and high-tech businesses. David is also the voluntary Chair of the Toronto City Summit Alliance, a diverse coalition of civic leaders whose mission is to accelerate social and economic development in the Toronto region.
Come join us on Monday, April 7th as we celebrate these two extraordinary men with their innovative vision for this great city.
